The five years since 9/11 have been punctuated with a series of unprecedented natural disasters and man made crises that have played out in real time on the world's television screens. If art imitates life, then it's no wonder there has been an upsurge in artists creating works that give insight into to this post 9/11 world of terror alerts, ominous threats, catastrophic natural occurrences and global unease.
Run for Your Lives! showcases the work of artists who have managed to transform notions and experiences of disaster and catastrophe into artworks that imbue real world events with a kind of poetry, calm, intensity and even humor that can only be truly appreciated in retrospect. Artists include Paula Abalos, Matias Duville, Joseph Peragine, Dietrich Wegner, Anitra Hamilton, Christoph Draeger, Katherine Taylor, Joy Garnett, Gabriela Trzebinski, Lillian Tyrrell, Yumi Janairo Roth, Joe Sola, and Lori Nix.
