|I believed that the energy transfer within the organism through the genes was terribly important. I believe that the difference between life and death is the transfer of energy through the genetic apparatus, and that we know a great deal about the genetic apparatus, but not how to make it alive. So the relation between the external energy and the gene energy became my focus. I wanted to know how the external energy got through and how it functioned. How it vibrated and how it produced product, and what its physical chemical paramenters were, a little bit lateral to what we knew about the metabolic schemes: the free energy states, and the configuration of molecules.
